Discovering Multiple Intelligences: A Key to Unlocking the Potential in Every Child (Multi-age)

Tired of teaching the same thing the same way? Frustrated because some children just seem so hard to teach? Looking for ways to promote self-esteem and happiness in the children you work with every day? Discover how bringing Multiple Intelligence Theory into your early childhood classroom can help solve some of these very common problems. This workshop will show you the simple ideas behind this theory with a complicated name and show you how you can apply it to your classroom to get you teaching "out-of-the-box" and create learning opportunities that will engage even the hardest to reach child.

Exploring Our World Through Themes (Preschool)

Teaching with themes helps children to make sense of abstract ideas by putting them into a real-world context. But what makes a great theme? How can we be sure children are learning the basic skills they need for school success? Can one theme be relevent and interesting to a diverse group of children? In this workshop participants will explore these  questions and discover strategies for creating a great theme unit.

Exploring Our World Through Themes (Toddler)

Toddler teachers know that preschool themes don't always work in the toddler classroom. But themes can be a helpful organizational tool for the toddler teacher. In this workshop we will explore the "hows" and "whys' of using themes with toddlers and discover the elements that make a successful toddler theme.

Revealing the Learning in Play (Multi-age)

Many acknowledge play as a fundamental right of childhood, and yet as the push for academic success seeps into our early childhood programs, more and more teachers are replacing free play time with more academic activities. In this workshop participants will re-discover the important learning opportunities that play provides and explore how to use (and defend!) child-centered play as a teaching tool.

Beyond Babysitting: Creating a Professional Family Child Care Program

In-home child care providers are key players in the field of early learning and care. For many families, these dedicated people are a lifeline. And yet, few family child care providers get the respect they deserve and are referred to as "babysitters". In this workshop, we will explore the elements of a quality early childhood program, including the set-up of your space, planning a routine and activities, and communicating with families. Participants will explore ways to raise the quality of their child care program and the professionalism of their home business to move beyond the label "babysitter".
